I admit it, I'm one of those guys that grew up just fascinated by the Manson story, and even though he was a highly disturbed and dangerous asshole, I always held him in an oddly respectful regard. It is entirely possible that had I been in that time and place, I might have followed him.

I've both listened to and read what he has to say. None of it made any sense to me whatsoever.

I think his strength wasn't intellectual, but emotional - he accepted people that didn't fit in elsewhere, and had a weird magnetism that sucked people in and ultimately incited them to do horrible things in his name.

I hold no admiration for the man himself, but his power... I'd like to think I'd wield such influence better than he did, but I do wish I had it, for better or worse.
