As we mark the 40th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Fox is prepping a remake of the cult classic. The two-hour taped event special, which is in development with a cast-contingent order, is executive produced by Gail Berman of The Jackal Group; the 1975 movie’s producer Lou Adler; and Kenny Ortega, who is set to direct and choreograph. Fox 21 TV Studios is producing.

Fifty pro and amateur filmmakers divvied up Paul Verhoeven's 1987 classic into 60 pieces, and went to town remaking each slice in their own vein. Presented here in full reassembled glory is Our RoboCop Remake.

Not that I would ever want to give traffic to io9 because those rat bastards stole our Bricken from Topless Robot, but Rob's knocked out a pretty damn good column about why reboots and remakes often fail and are mostly unnecessary. Apparently sleeping on the mountain of cash they gave him to jump ship hasn't affected his sensibilities too much.

Hollywood has suffered its worst weekend at the North American box office since the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, with analysts blaming a surfeit of sequels and remakes for deterring audiences.

NBC's remaking the Munsters. As a drama. Maybe to balance it out, their new Hannibal Lecter series will be a wacky screwball sitcom.

Veteran director John Carpenter has defended the glut of movie remakes in Hollywood, insisting rebooting films familiar to fans guarantees success. But Carpenter is adamant directors prefer to re-shoot old titles because it's an easy way of luring film fans away from the internet and into cinemas.
Sounds to me like someone's justifying laziness, Mr. Blamepants. You're making it hard to keep admiring you, Carpenter.

Man, I hate remakes. You could maybe count the good ones on one hand, while there's more bad ones than tea in China. You don't see me railing against remakes here much anymore because I've started a side project with a friend purely devoted to the topic, and my rants go there now.
ANYWAY. Of those good remakes, Airplane! gets added to the short list. 'Whaaa?' you may ask, 'Airplane! was a remake???' Yep. It's a parody of airplane disaster flicks in general, but a remake of Zero Hour! in particular. Don't believe me? Have a look at a side-by-side comparison. TMYK!
It's bad enough when the Hollywood machine cops out by remaking great movies instead of, oh, coming up with something fresh and original.
Somehow, it's even more insulting and pathetic when they start remaking the worst. Sorry, Ed. Even you deserve better.

Some nobody music video director is remaking Alien. Even if it's an origin story instead of a straight-up remake (as has been hinted at in a late-breaking update), leave it the fuck alone.

For the most part, my wife thinks my crusade against the remake trend is just me being pissy about unimportant shit. I'm pretty sure her opinion will change when she sees that one of her all-time favorites - Drop Dead Fred - is next in line.

The remake atrocities hurtle to a whole new level of unmitigated suck with the announcement that Re-Animator will be re-animated as a tv series... for the teenyboppers.
