Imagine, if you will, a strip where Garfield and Jon Arbuckle are portrayed by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich of Metallica. Now imagine no more, because it's a thing. Oh yes.

The signature scene of Netflix's new Marvel superhero series Daredevil comes at the tail end of the show's second episode, "Cut Man." Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) - a.k.a. Daredevil - bursts into the villains' den looking for a missing boy. From there, we're treated to a bone-crunching fight through the guts of a seedy New York City building.

Doors bust open. People get microwaves chucked at their heads. Bodies contort and twist with every punch. And it all happens in one, continuous shot.

The scene is a three-minute declaration that this superhero series came ready to play.

A fresco depicting four superheroes committing what has been interpreted as a gang rape is currently the subject of a huge scandal in France. The mural - which is painted on the wall of a hospital in Clermont-Ferrand - depicts Wonder Woman having anal sex with Batman while Superman comes in her mouth. Supergirl is there, fisting, and the Flash is getting a handjob.

VICE nails the deep existential appeal of Schulz's superficially-harmless comic strip, and offers a good explanation of why I'm kinda keen to see the new movie.
