Gilbert Ross, M.D., is the Medical and Executive Director of the American Council on Science and Health, and he sounds off here on why Bloomberg's war on vaping may forever tarnish his political legacy.

It's been reported that twice as many children have tried an e-cig this year over last year. Reason's Nick Gillespe explains why that's nothing to clutch your pearls over, and CASAA scientific director Dr. Carl V. Phillips just thinks it's all a pile of shit.

Need some ammo against the naysayers? Here's a list of 10 studies done in the last 4 years that back up what we all know - that vaping is orders of magnitude safer than smoking, and poses no risk to the general public.

If you've been around the log for any amount of time, you're probably at least a little familiar with the world of electronic cigarettes - I was able to quit smoking a couple years ago with them and occasionally post stuff from that world because I'm part of that culture now.
Digital Trends takes a hard look at said culture at a recent vape meet, and has produced a good article on where vaping is headed and the community that has formed around it.
Five US senators have recently urged the FDA to regulate the sale and marketing of electronic cigarettes. Turns out 3 of those 5 senators have accepted lobbyist money from the tobacco industry in the past year. Not so coincidentally, the tobacco industry is starting to feel the hit from vaping - Morgan Stanley directly attributes the first-quarter decline in sales to e-cigs. Hmmm.
Andy Sutton has a Kickstarter campaign to fund his new documentary that will take a critical look at the future of vaping in the face of the EU and similar bans worldwide. Kick 'em 500 euro and they'll list you as an executive producer!

Stevevape has compiled a VERY informative list of studies and tests that back up what most vapers know already, that vaping is orders of magnitude safer than smoking. A handy reference indeed!
On Saturday, Volcano E-Cigs and The Surfrider Foundation put together a cigarette butt cleanup on Kakaako Beach Park near Honolulu. With 11,876 cigarette butts collected by volunteers, Volcano donated $5,588 to the Surfrider Foundation, which works to protect beaches and oceans everywhere.

Courtney Love is in a Bon Duke-directed video for electronic cigarette brand NJOY where she gets the last laugh with her NJOY e-cig at a party. Watch a very glamorous-looking Love get confronted by an old sourpuss at a fancy party who's horrified that our favorite rock star is smoking inside... that is, until C-Love tells her it's a "fucking NJOY."

People smoke because they value the pleasure they get from nicotine in tobacco over the long-term certainty that their health will be damaged. So it seems rational to welcome a device that separates the dangerous part of smoking (the tar, carbon monoxide and smoke released by the process of combustion) from the nicotine. And that is what an e-cigarette does.

Heads up - the Wyoming Vapor Company in Casper was robbed last night, everything they didn't steal they destroyed. If you spot any vaping stuff being sold suspiciously cheap privately and locally, please let the Casper cops know. Do not attempt to apprehend the criminals yourself, they're suspected of being incredible dickwads.

Vaping continues to become more and more visible, what with the NJOY Super Bowl ads and such, and now NASCAR will be opening a few more eyes as well - Madvapes is sponsoring Eddie Sharp Racing this season, with the company's logo prominently featured on Sharp's truck.
Russia's just passed a sweeping new anti-smoking law greatly reducing the places people can smoke and how cigarettes can be marketed and sold. Unfortunately electronic cigarettes are also being banned, because they are perceived as an advertisement for smoking tobacco, indirectly hurting public health. By this logic, they should also ban water, since it can be perceived as an advertisement for drinking vodka.

Researchers at the Institute for Studies criticized the e-cigarette industry for promoting fags with batteries as being cool. Professor Henry Brubaker said: "We studied one of those things, it's got a blue light on the tip that comes on when you inhale, for Christ's sake."
One of the great things about vaping is meeting other vapers, and organized meets are popping up all over. Enter VapeMeetUp.com, a site featuring a google calendar with meets from all over the world... including our own Vaping In Phoenix socials.

Dr. Gilbert Ross, M.D. - the executive and medical director of the American Council on Science and Health - points out that the e-cig's visual similarity to the real thing is a feature, not a bug - and that condemning them on a national scale will increase tobacco deaths instead of reducing them.
This week, two articles have been published which review the current state of treatment for smoking cessation. Both articles conclude that electronic cigarettes show promise and that these innovative products should be considered as strategies to promote smoking cessation or reduction.

The Indoor Vapor Air Quality Study, which finds vaping to be vastly safer than smoking for both vapers and the people around them, has passed muster and was printed up in the peer-reviewed Inhalation Toxicology journal this month.
