Water with high mineral content appear to turn objects to stone within a matter of a few days or weeks. People pay to enter and see this strange phenomenon in England and have done so for many decades.

It's the Perseids!

The shooting star spectacle peaks on the night of Wednesday into Thursday morning, with as many as 90 to 100 shooting stars an hour, according to the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and the Royal Astronomical Society in the U.K. In the eastern U.S., the most prolific cosmic bombardment will likely be around 4 a.m. Eastern time.

A mountain has been officially downgraded to a hill - after missing out on the title by just 23 millimetres. Surveyors ruled that Moelwyn Mawr in the Snowdonia range is no longer a mountain after it failed to measure up to the guidelines set out for summits.

Dang! Have you ever seen waves get so cold they turn to slurpee? We haven't. So when surfer/photographer/Stay Wild contributor Jonathan Nimerfroh showed us these sweet shots he captured in Nantucket we had to share.

Boston's received a historic pile of snow this winter, putting residents in a tough place. But Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore isn't concerned with any of that. Instead, he's basking in the glow of thundersnow. And he's really excited about it.

Thanks to the surveillance cameras of a house that survived it, there are multiple views of a neighborhood being flattened by a tornado in high detail. Damn, nature. You scary.

Not to harsh your mellow, but yesterday marked the 5-year anniversary of hurricane Katrina paying a visit to the Big Easy. This stunning pictorial brings it all back into sharp focus.

So, New Orleans gets hit by the second whopper of a hurricane in 3 years today. Here's some live webcams... live for now, anyway.

The storm is just hours away, and it looks like most think the Big Easy is done for. I remember it as an incredibly cool place, been there a few times growing up, never anywhere but the Quarter except getting in and out of town. It was another world, a pocket of slow time that defied its' saner surroundings. A place of incredible color and flavor, both visibly and in its personality.

I've always wanted to take the family. I hope it makes it through the night.
